Dingoes dining with death

چکیده

Dingoes (Canis dingo) are known for hunting and killing animals to meet their energetic requirements, but like almost all predators they also scavenge animal remains. To improve our understanding of dingo scavenging ecology, we investigated the role abiotic biotic factors in shaping carcass utilisation by dingoes further determined whether influenced persistence landscape. do so, monitored visitation using remote cameras positioned on 119 kangaroo carcasses open closed canopy habitats warm cool seasons. The were across multiple study sites, which incorporated forest, alpine desert ecoregions Australia. We found that season played an important dingoes, as well persistence. Warmer seasons increased rate discovery 6.3-fold Forest site 4.8-fold Alpine site, time spent feeding site. Further, persisted at least 4.7 times longer compared with On other hand, was not habitat, although more likely persist Finally, showed may contribute substantial removal certain contexts. Indeed, decreased evident season, when occurred during first two weeks monitoring. variability results highlights complexity patterns and, broadly, vertebrate scavenging. It emphasises need consider properly understand functional roles different scavenger species. Longer-term studies additional seasonal replicates yield a detailed picture apex scavengers.

Dining Cryptographers with 0.924 Verifiable Collision Resolution

The dining cryptographers protocol implements a multiple access channel in which senders and recipients are anonymous. A problem is that a malicious participant can disrupt communication by deliberately creating collisions. We propose a computationally secure dining cryptographers protocol with collision resolution that achieves a maximum stable throughput of 0.924 messages per round and which ...

Progress with Java threads as dining philosophers

The classical problem of the dining philosphers is solved and implemented with Java threads, without central coordination. Apart from the initialization the program is symmetric. The philosophers are the synchronized objects whereas the forks between the philosophers are unsynchronized. It is proved that every hungry philosopher eats within bounded delay, in a certain formalized sense.

Future Dining Table: Dish Recommendation Based on Dining Activity Recognition

Dining table is one of the environments that remain to be explored by information technology and that could be important for happy and healthy life of everybody. We have been studying the Future Dining Table system, dining environment of the future. The system features the real time recognition of dining activity, which is represented by the history of the hand movement to the dishes on the tab...

Dining with GAs: Operator Lunch Theorems

There has been considerable discussion of the pros cons of recombination and mutation operators in the context of Holland s schema theory In this paper we de ne a common framework for extending and relating previous disruption and construction analyses for both recombination and mutation This results in several insights into the properties of recombination and mutation including a No Free Lunch...

Stabilizing Dining with Failure Locality 1

The dining philosophers problem, or simply dining, is a fundamental distributed resource allocation problem. In large scale and longlived systems, the likelihood of some process failing at some point is high, thus sparking interest in fault-tolerant versions of dining. We propose two algorithms for solving stabilizing dining with failure locality 1 in asynchronous shared-memory systems with reg...
